Area description

The apartment is located only 30 minutes away from Lisbon, and next to the sea. It is surrounded on the north by the majestic Sintra mountains and on the west by the whole coast of the Atlantic Ocean, better known by ‘Costa do Estoril’, or Estoril coast.

Well known for its splendid white sand beaches, numerous shops, enchanting streets and cosmopolitan feel, this fishing village became, since the end of the 19th century, a refined seaside resort and one of the most appreciated Portuguese destinations, both by national and international tourists, due to its pleasant climate, fantastic views and varied gastronomy.

Cascais was, in the past, the elegant summer refuge of the Portuguese monarchy, and during WWII, the safe harbor of the European royalty. In later years, it became a cultural hub with a vibrant nightlife, and an enviable quality of life, always accompanied by its elegant lighthouses, fortresses
and well-known Citadel.

The ‘Largo de Camões, or Camões Plaza, situated near the house, marks the center of the village and is the most sought-after area by visitors. Its lively atmosphere, with numerous bars and restaurants, turns it into a singular place to have a glass of wine or beer at the end of the day, or simply to enjoy a good meal. And once finding yourself here, you can stroll along the well-known ‘Rua Direita’, the main commercial street, where you will find everything from the most beautiful shops to street vendors. And if you have the opportunity, you can also visit the local fair which takes place on the first Sunday of each month, where you can acquire local handcraft and excellent bargains.

Exiting the village center towards the coast you will find the ‘Praia dos Pescadores’, or Fishermen Beach, and right next to it the ‘Marina de Cascais’, or Cascais Dock, where you will be able to appreciate luxury yachts, taste gastronomic delights, or even appreciate a cocktail in a jazz bar or in a stylish nightclub.

Admire the wild sand dunes and the sea of ‘Praia do Guincho’, or Guincho Beach, which integrates the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, and where the surf, windsurf and all types of aquamarine sports dominate, and still, if you appreciate it, enjoy the Golf Course situated in the emblematic ‘Quinta da Marina’ complex.

Stroll along the seaside boardwalk up to Estoril, where you will find one of the largest and oldest Casinos of Europe. Let yourself be taken in by the enchanting view of beach-front small palaces and luxury houses. The Estoril area attracts visitors avid for culture and jet-setters from all over the world to its conferences, movie festivals, and legendary summer jazz concerts. This is also the setting for many international sporting events, such as Estoril Golf and wind-sailing competitions.

Monuments, museums and all type of cultural events are constant in Cascais, from classical music to art exhibitions.

Since Cascais is located only 30 minutes away from Lisbon by car, your best option is to rent a car – ask us how! Nevertheless, the surface train is also an excellent alternative since the whole trip connecting Cascais to Lisbon is wonderful and allows you to discover the Sun coast, where Cascais’ unique beauty mingles with the historic heritage of Lisbon."
